Why CDMA is the Right Choice for Dance Classes

If you are considering registering for dance classes at any other dance studio or ballet school in Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, Santa Maria, or San Luis Obispo, we encourage you to ask the studio the following questions before making your decision.

There are many dance studios to choose from in San Luis Obispo County. Does it really matter which studio you choose? ABSOLUTELY! Here are the 5 main reasons why CDMA is the right choice for you and your child.

Annual Studio Recitals

Dance, Musical Theater & Voice

We have two separate recitals in June - one for our dance, musical theater & voice students and one for our music & theater students.

In order to perform in the annual recital, Students must attend classes the entire month of June.

Annual Studio Showcase - Dance, Musical Theater & Voice Held in June at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts

  • Our dance, musical theater & voice showcase is held each year at the end of June. Most classes will present one dance during the showcase.
  • The showcase is held at The Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande. There is typically a Saturday evening performance and a Sunday matinee and evening performance which are different shows (check show orders carefully!).
  • Dress rehearsals for the showcase are held the week before performances at CDMA (schedule will be emailed/posted). Rehearsals for select pieces for the showcase are held at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts Saturday morning before the performance (schedule will be emailed/posted).
  • Each student is encouraged to participate, but it is not a requirement. You will need to let us know by May 1 if your child will not be participating.
  • Costumes are reasonably priced and age-appropriate.
  • DVD’s and professional photos are available for purchase.
  • Detailed information about dates, locations, costume costs, volunteer opportunities and other specifics will be available beginning in April.

Are a wide variety of classes, days and times offered?

Many studios, due to limited space, focus only on dance, or on specific age groups and abilities.

At CDMA, we offer not only instruction in dance, but also theater, voice, and music. We offer professional group and private instruction for all ages and abilities on multiple days and times, ensuring that you will find the correct class on a day and time that works for you. We also offer classes in Dance, Music and Theater to students with special abilities. CDMA has the most inclusive and diverse schedule of children’s classes in multiple disciplines on the Central Coast.

What type of dance floor is used?

Dance is a very physical activity requiring a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints and pressure on the knees and back. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by dancing on a professional sprung or “floating floor.”

At CDMA, all of our studios are equipped with sprung/floating dance floors covered with top-of-the-line vinyl or wood surfaces which reduces the risk of dancer injury and fatigue.

What is the size of the class?

If a dance class has fewer students, each child receives more personalized attention and it allows the teacher to make sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. A smaller class also ensures that students do not develop bad habits or improper technique.

At CDMA, students receive professional instruction in a caring, supportive and non-competitive environment with limited class sizes. Many classes have teacher assistants to further reduce the teacher to student ratio.

Can I get immediate assistance and customer service?

In many studios the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration or the studio offers limited office hours, resulting in poor customer service.

At CDMA, our office manager or friendly staff is available during all business hours, so you can get immediate assistance or have important questions answered as the need arises. Customer service is a top priority for us, ensuring a good experience for you!

Is the studio “parent friendly?”

Many studios are set up to meet the needs of the students, yet do not take into consideration the needs or wants of the parents.

At CDMA we value parent involvement and have made our academy a comfortable gathering place for parents as well as students. We have several comfortable lounges for relaxing, large viewing windows and closed circuit T.V.’s for watching classes, free WiFi, and our Center Stage Snack Barre with healthy snacks, tea and coffee to enjoy while you watch your child take class! We also offer an extensive line of CDMA clothing and have tights, dance shorts, and dance bags available on site for purchase!Ask any dance school, dance studio or ballet academy in San Luis Obispo County these questions and you will see why more families choose our studio each year than any other.
